Pond Fish food
There are several major brands of pond fish food on the market today. The most popular ones are sold as pellets which are made to float on the surface of your pond for quite a while. The reason for this is so that your fish will have enough time to eat them before they sink and create additional waste at the bottom of your pond. You do not want to over-feed your fish either because the uneaten food will eventually sink to the bottom of you pond and again, turn into a waste product. It is also important to realize that many of the fish, such as Koi, will actually need specific types of food pellets for each season of the year. Their digestion and metabolism slows down significantly during the winter months. So, feeding them improperly during these times can actually harm or even kill your fish.

As an example,this one is one of my personal favorites that really enhance and beautify your pond's water. And, this is to change the color of your water to a darker shade of blue. Not only does this enhance the beauty of your pond but due to the darker blue color, it will also cut down on algae and help protect your fish from predatory birds and animals.

Fish Pond Pumps
Any pump that you choose to use will have to offer certain features that your pond requires. You will want to use a pump that will provide your pond with good aeration qualities and proper water circulation. The size of the pump that you will need will be determined by calculating your pond's size, volume and depth. Along with the pond pump, the pond filter is essential in keeping your water clean from waste. You will find that there are many different models of pond pumps that are designed to do different jobs. They will mainly be used to circulate and clean your pond water.
However, you can also buy smaller units that are used to run various water features that enhance your pond's scenery. The two most popular types of pond pumps are the submersed and the external pond pump. Fish Pond Liners
There are several different types of pond liners available. These include concrete, fiberglass, rigid plastic, flexible plastic liners and rubber. The two most popular pond liners are the rigid plastic pond liner or “pre formed” plastic pond liner which has been in use for many years and the flexible plastic liner. With the rigid pre cast pond liner you simply dig the hole, place the liner in the hole and fill in around the sides with dirt, and you are done. The second most popular and the best pond liner is the flexible plastic or rubber liner made of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer). This EPDM liner has a lifespan up to 20 years and beyond. EPDM also has the most resistance to UV rays and weathering. And, due to their heavy duty thickness they are very resistant to tears and punctures.

The entire ecosystem of your pond depends on your pond's filtration system. Without the proper pond filter not only will your fish suffer because of an unbalanced and poor ecosystem but you would also notice the difference in the pond's water clarity and quality. The water would even lose it's aesthetics. Pond water filters are designed to eliminate many of the impurities of your pond water. These impurities include debris, waste, ammonia and odors. Any of these can harm your fish and reduce the quality of your water. The size and type of water filter your pond needs will be determined by the size of your pond, how many fish you have, and how often you want the pond water to be circulated per hour.
